Job Purpose We are looking for an experienced Senior Principal Solution Architect who will work closely with Product Directors, Product Owners, Enterprise Architects and Engineering teams to define the technical architecture for R&D Operations data and software products. The Solution Architect will also provide oversight to the delivery of the products by agile scrum teams, ensuring adherence to GSK R&D Tech architectural standards and Global Regulatory Compliance requirements. About R&D Digital & Tech, R&D Operations R&D Digital & Tech is at the forefront, working hand in hand with R&D business functions and applying industry leading technologies, a product-centric org structure and an agile delivery approach to deliver value. R&D Operations addresses the business needs of Portfolio management & governance bodies, Pipeline Project Management, Strategy Resource Management, R&D Finance and Business Development. Technology aligned to this area will cover the breadth of acquiring, managing and transforming operational data pertinent to planning and managing R&D programs. We equip R&D leaders with the essential details of upcoming project milestones, resource needs and capacity, so that trade-off decisions can be made nimbly in support of the evolving portfolio. The Senior Principal Solution Architect, R&D Operations role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career. These responsibilities include some of the following: Maintain familiarity with GSK R&D Tech architectural standards and external technology trends. Maintain expertise in agile product delivery processes and technologies, including, but not limited to, cloud platforms (Azure, GCP), data fabric/mesh, DevSecOps, containerization, Databricks/Python, AI/ML, scrum and SAFe. Define cloud-based, scalable product architectures informed by external technology trends and aligned with GSK R&D Tech architectural standards as well as visions of Enterprise Architect and Principal Engineer. Create achievable product implementation strategies that deliver business value continuously and fit into the existing enterprise architecture from the technical, business and user perspectives. Work with Product Directors, Product Owners and Principal/Senior Engineers to construct agile scrum teams for product delivery Generate technical solution designs that map out the core parts that will constitute the product solution and how they are going to work together Lead development and testing of products through participation in product backlog refinement and Program Increment and Sprint Planning, as well as agile ceremonies such as Daily Standups. Contribute to relentless improvement of products and scrum teams by championing experimentation and innovation, and through coaching and mentoring of engineering team members. Ensure technical documentation is created and maintained per Global Regulatory Compliance requirements, and that documentation is fit for purpose and useful to the delivery and support teams. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline Total 15+ years of experience out of which 10+ years architecting and delivering software solutions 5+ years leading a solutions delivery team 3+ years architecting and delivering cloud-based software solutions using Azure or GCP 3+ years DevOps or DevSecOps experience, including Azure DevOps or Jira experience, and thorough understanding of code branching strategies using GitHub 3+ years agile/scrum delivery methodology experience Basic understanding of data fabric/mesh concepts and principles Strong communication skills, both verbal and written Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Azure cloud platform services expertise, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Services Gen2, Databricks, Synapse, Azure Kubernetes Service, Pyspark RDBMS experience – e.g., Oracle, SQL Server Experience with Reporting/Visualization tools Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Life science or healthcare industry experience Why GSK?
