Engineer II (Bakeries) - Cape Town HQ

Responsibilities Implement and drive capital projects which include the following: New bakery construction, new plant and equipment selection and installation. Accountable for design of new plant layouts, machine replacement, costing and proposals. Work closely with clients to ensure scope definition Design and develop a concept & final solution and detailed project plan Create initial drafts of the project in AutoCAD Set up project proposals, budgets and costing and maintaining financial records. Contractor managment: Oversee the engineering and construction teams during the project Resourcing of the project: man, machine, money etc. Ensure the final project meets all statutory and company regulations. Engage with Plant Engineering by providing technical leadership & Subject Matter Expertise to drive Reliability Improvement and advise bakeries maintenance managers on maintaining equipment in the best condition for safety, quality and performance. Support Bakery maintenance managers with internal / technical / process projects (incl. major shutdowns, breakdowns, machine installations Assist in developing engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues as well as damages reduction. Assist with and enable process optimisation through equipment upgrades, modifications, overall maintenance and implementation of latest technology to enable quality and throughput enhancement Enable short and long term capital planning and Maintenance budget preparations Engage with SSA Engineering and SSA Technical Safety on equipment MESS, EHS, L2O safety requirements and ensure standards are met on investments and existign equipment upgrades. Qualifications Relevant Degree or Diploma within Engineering field. Minimum 10 years experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain. FMCG experience is essential Previous bakery experience required ‘Hands on’ approach on the factory floor if required. Computer Literacy and experience in the use of Engineering software tools/ Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (e.g. SAP PM, Pragma, Auto CAD, etc) Excellent knowledge of Food Safety and GMP Standards Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety Requirements within a factory environment Strong local network with food OEM`s and vendor management skills Good interpersonal skills to deal with a variety of people from different backgrounds Strong communication skills and ability to interact with senior management Ability to travel nationally to our sites as required. Ability to work cross-functionally. Strong internal and external communicator, influencer, and negotiator.
