Sr Manager, External Reporting

AutoNation Headquarters Position Summary: Responsible for managing the financial and external reporting process, as well as the accounting for acquisitions and divestitures. Organizational Relationships: The position collaborates with various corporate departments including Consolidations, Corporate Accounting, Planning, Treasury, IT, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Development, Legal, and External Auditors. Job Responsibilities: Prepare and review tie out of quarterly and annual financial reports to be filed with the SEC, including press releases, registration statements, MD&A, financial statements, and accompanying footnotes, and other supplemental information; and ensure such reports comply with GAAP and SEC reporting standards. Manage annual and quarterly external reporting process ensuring key deliverables and milestones are completed in accordance with the financial reporting timeline. Review preparation of supporting workpapers for financial statement footnote disclosures and MD&A disclosures and ensure SOX compliance. Review other externally reported financial information including 401k financial statements, proxy statements, and investor presentations. Review and/or prepare various quarterly analyses including EPS calculation, stock-based compensation, and inventory valuation reserve calculations. Oversee acquisition and divestiture accounting for newly acquired and divested stores, including identifying potential accounting issues and performing analysis, journal entries, and related account reconciliations and rollforwards. Act as head liaison with the KPMG Audit team including conducting status meetings to ensure PBCs are being provided by established deadlines and outstanding issues are being resolved. Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding and stay abreast of changes to GAAP and SEC rules and regulations. Research and evaluate technical accounting issues and the related impact to the company's financial statements and prepare related technical accounting memorandums. Assist in the development, documentation, and implementation of accounting policies and related internal controls as new accounting issues arise. Prepare various deliverables for Audit Committee and adhoc requests from senior management. Ensure compliance with the SEC’s XBRL mandate Mandatory Qualifications: 4-year degree in accounting Minimum of 5-7 years related work experience Strong understanding of financial statements and footnote disclosures Thorough technical knowledge and deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and SEC regulations relevant to the Company Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) Strong management, organization, and interpersonal skills Qualifications Preferred: 3-4 years of public accounting experience or SEC reporting Hyperion and Essbase systems experience Workiva experience Certified Public Accountant The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job.
