Technical Director – DTC

Who are we hiring? Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (MSG Sports) is a leading professional sports company, with a collection of assets that includes: the New York Knicks (NBA) and the New York Rangers (NHL); two development league teams – the Westchester Knicks (NBAGL) and the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL); and esports teams through Counter Logic Gaming, a leading North American esports organization, and Knicks Gaming, an NBA 2K League franchise. Collaborate with the product team on product strategy and ensure feature prioritization with the external platform providers managing the delivery schedule closely. Work with the external development team to ensure successful delivery of customer-centric, best-in-class products and deliverables within budgets and deadlines. Build and manage relationships with any external data providers, developers, quality assurance firms, and other partners as required, to ensure they meet agreed commitments. Communicate engineering project and program plans along with key milestones and provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders. Liaise with relevant vendors to ensure appropriate selection and maintenance of development tools. Establish DTC operational processes together with the development team taking accountability for operational excellence. Ensure the vendors are working on effective product development processes, championing continuous improvement of development and test processes Work closely with our platform vendor and all relevant parties to ensure tech strategy is aligned to the business, consumers and product requirements. Review all tech deliverables and provide on-going feedback and advice for improvement as required. Cascade information to external partner accordingly so everyone is aligned and focused on delivering relevant milestones in time. Work with product owners, product managers, user interface designers on technical documents as needed. Review with relevant parties to ensure all ad integrations are built in with top ad services such as Google Ad Manager. What do you need to succeed? Previous experience in a similar role delivering on subscription-based DTC products Strong understanding of product, technology, market trends, competitive landscape and users’ behavior in the sports streaming services Extensive knowledge in end-to-end product development and engineering processes. Must have the ability to build relationship with and influence stakeholders at all levels. Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines while delivering on multiple priorities Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts based on the audience Ability to work collaboratively with teams across multiple divisions in a matrix environment Able to apply sound judgment to advise on and support overall development strategy and process. Results-oriented with problem-solving abilities. Positive attitude and an ability to be flexible and to quickly adapt to change. Good knowledge of Internet technologies such as media streaming, content delivery networks (CDNs), DRM, and REST APIs. Working knowledge of AWS technologies for scalable cloud-based systems.
