S&P Dow Jones Indices The Role: Index Production Analyst The Location: Beijing, China The Team: The candidate will be part of the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG) which is responsible for the maintenance and calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices The Impact: The Index Production Analyst will research stock and company information for all companies of an assigned portfolio, including price validation, corporate actions such as dividends and splits, attribute assignments, and share/ownership research. The Index Production Analyst must therefore have an understanding of global equity markets and will focus primarily on APAC equity markets. The Index Production Analyst is responsible for researching and screening details and events for an assigned group of companies within the APAC region and ensures these events are reflected accurately in our global index range. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Research and Analysis on Market Driven Events Closely monitor and track announced corporate actions. Monitor a variety of sources including but not limited to: Thomson Reuters, S&P Capital IQ, Factset, Company IR websites, Stock Exchanges, etc. for new corporate action announcements. Ensure all entries in the system are verified and that supporting evidence is stored and retained, in particular for those events where data sources show conflicting information. Ensure that share and free float information are, researched, validated and entered into our database and that supporting evidence is retained in accordance with S&P Dow Jones Indices Equity Indices Policies & Practices – Methodology These actions must be completed before market close and forward looking in advance of one week where data changes on a daily basis. Provide backup functions for other team members and perform assigned QA tasks Analyze complex corporate events, create calculation models when necessary, and identify their adequate treatment according to the S&P Dow Jones Indices’ Equity Indices Policies & Practices - Methodology Using equity databases to facilitate reports and queries for internal and client use Manages and maintain relationships with key members of other groups within S&P Dow Jones Indices, across other S&P Dow Jones departments. Price Validation and Verifications Responsibility at local market close for validation of system captured prices. Review captured prices against multiple sources and research and make decision on differences under restrictive timeline. Responsible for verifying correctness for hundreds of securities across multiple markets and exchanges and working to strict deadlines. Must complete work and convey completed tasks to Index Manager so that the Index Manager can validate index values. Must be efficient and customer focused so both processes may be completed in one hour or less. At times, will be required to interpret complex financial transactions. Help to test and implement major system and workflow enhancements. OTHER REQUIRED ACCOUNTABILITIES Communication Proactively communicate any major issues to team members, Senior Market Managers or Team Lead. Efficiently answer queries on corporate actions relayed by S&P Dow Jones Indices’ Client Services Communicate to executive level managers and Index Committee members regarding specific market research that potentially affect index changing events. Clear communication and coordination with other team members and global teams on over-lapping tasks to ensure seamless handover from region to region Works in a polite and professional manner when dealing with users/clients both internal & external Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills Requests assistance/support from managers and peers when required. Customer Focus Demonstrates a sense of urgency and responsiveness to customer enquiries. Sets and manages customers’ expectations by communicating what can or cannot be accomplished/delivered. Strives to meet and/or exceed customer expectations. Uses effective questioning and listening skills in order to identify customers’ needs and expectations. Builds and maintains effective professional relationships with customers. KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree in maths, economics, or finance considered an advantage. Understanding of Equity Markets & knowledge of corporate actions and the regional market is essential. Good command of Japanese and English in both oral and written communications. Korean language skills would be considered an advantage Experience with VBA, SQL and Python strongly preferred Minimum of 2 ~ 5 years of professional working experience in a similar role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Advanced Excel skills helpful. Ability to demonstrate use of Excel functionality such as v look-up, pivot tables, and if statements frequently used to build portfolio models considered an advantage. Good analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner. Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
