GSK recently initiated clinical studies of a potential targeted immunotherapy for genital herpes simplex infections. This condition impacts over 500 million people worldwide and there remains an unmet need to better manage symptoms, improve quality of life and reproductive health, and reduce transmission. To support our global medical affairs activities, we are looking to appoint a Global Medical Affairs Director to work in this pipeline area, reporting to the Global Medical Affairs Lead for HSV. A well-executed medical affairs strategy will be critical in achieving meaningful insight gathering, the right evidence generation plan, and focused scientific communication/medical education plans that help improve outcomes for patients living with genital herpes. The Global Medical Affairs Director will play a key role in creating and implementing this strategy, in close collaboration with markets. Job Purpose Drives external and internal insight gathering, to shape understanding of customer needs Translates current and emerging evidence into content of value for internal and external audiences Collaborates with R&D, country medical teams and other key cross-functional stakeholders to help shape and execute the medical affairs and launch strategy and plans Develops a strong external network of global experts in HSV, genital herpes and sexually transmitted infections and drives impactful partnership and collaborative activities Drives development and execution of global medical affairs strategy Key Responsibilities Partners with above-country and country colleagues to drive, integrate and prioritise key insights to inform global medical affairs plans and life cycle strategy Engages with R&D, Value Evidence and Outcomes (VEO), other disciplines, and country teams to support identification of evidence generation needs and plans to address them Ensures country medical affairs colleagues have a robust knowledge of the relevant and emerging clinical evidence, supporting their training by creating high quality scientific engagement materials for both internal and external use Develops external scientific communication and medical education content on HSV/ genital herpes/ sexually transmitted infections, using innovative and diverse channels of communication Helps implement scientific communication strategy and launches, including reviewing and optimising local medical affairs plans and sharing learning/ best practice/ intelligence. Drives excellence in external engagement with key stakeholders (e.g. HCPs, Patients, Payers and Regulators) globally and in partnership with core countries Ensures appropriate medical governance oversight of all deliverables and leads/ contributes to copy approval process Partners with Marketing, Market Access and core country teams to generate content of high scientific quality for future promotional use Develops deep subject matter expertise on the product and therapy area Qualifications: Medical degree A specialism in sexually transmitted diseases/ genitourinary medicine/ urology/ infectious diseases preferred Pharma industry experience within Infectious Diseases Pharma industry experience in medical affairs, including pipeline and pre-launch activities Previous country and either regional or global experience Robust understanding of internal (where applicable) and external promotional codes of practice and regulations Demonstrated matrix leadership in previous roles Ability to prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously Track record of building strong internal and external networks Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and cultural diversity Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills GSK is a global biopharma company with a special purpose – to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together – so we can positively impact the health of billions of people and deliver stronger, more sustainable shareholder returns – as an organisation where people can thrive.
