Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) are externally-focused experts in medical science who engage in influential conversations with Thought-leaders (TLs) and other Health Care Professionals (HCPs) with the overall goal of improving patient care to help patients prevail over serious diseases. MSLs develop and maintain strong working relationships with TLs in a disease area through field visits and medical affairs activities, gathering and understanding insights on current and future disease management and scientific perspectives including unmet clinical needs. MSLs have a deep understanding of the medical science in their disease area. It is anticipated that a MSL fulfilling their internal and external duties will spend up to 80 percent of their time engaged with external customers with the balance of the time working with internal stakeholders as a member of the BMSA medical team. The MSL will support BMS’ oncology pipeline by identifying and mapping TLs, gathering and understanding insights, and supporting clinical trial activity. A key focus will initially be in GI therapy area, however there will be opportunity to expand across the breadth of the Oncology portfolio. Experience in Oncology strongly preferred. Experience in GI ideal but not essential. Responsibilities: External Environment and Customer Focus Identify, develop and maintain strong working relationships with a key TLs gathering insights on current and future disease management and scientific perspectives including unmet clinical needs. Help understand insights gathered from scientific conversations to inform medical activities and clinical research locally and globally, as well as internal stakeholders where appropriate. Engage in scientific dialogue around current and emerging data through field visits, presentations and discussions and at scientific congresses. It is anticipated that a MSL will spend up to 80 percent of their time engaged with external customers with the balance of the time spent as a valued member of the BMSA medical team. Actively profile the medical landscape and continuously update knowledge and expertise in disease management, patient treatment trends, unmet medical needs, clinical trials and scientific activities. Establish professional and corporate credibility with TLs by developing and implementing strategic engagement plans that incorporate the interests of the TL. 2. Implement the Medical Plan Drive development of the key TL Interaction plans in collaboration with Manager. Be a proactive member of the BMSA medical team providing field medical insights and contributions. Help develop, and deliver flawlessly, medical activities such as medical education and research discussions. Focus on better patient outcomes through innovation and simplification of all activities. Identify and train potential speakers for BMS educational programs. Contribute towards the development and implementation Account Plans in an appropriate way. Establish short-term and long-term objectives that focus on building strategy. 3. Support Clinical Trial Activities Support Regional Clinical Operations (RCO) including input on study feasibility, identification and assessment of potential study sites, facilitate BMS and investigator activities, and conduct site visits to support patient recruitment and/or discussions as needed. Provide recommendations and insights to Global Clinical Operations on study and site feasibilities within the therapeutic area based on knowledge of the field and through direct contacts with potential investigators. Actively support CRO sponsored studies as appropriate. Provide medical support to RCO to transition patients from clinical trial to marketed and/or reimbursed supply of drug, where required and as appropriate. Ensure that BMS Pharmacovigilance procedural documents are understood and applied by Investigators of local studies, and alert appropriate BMS personnel to any identified Adverse Events. 4. Qualifications, experience and competencies Our ideal candidate will have significant previous MSL experience within Oncology. With an initial focus on GI, experience in this area would be preferred. Due to our diverse portfolio this role will provide opportunity to expand into other disease areas. Medical doctor (physician), PharmD or PhD equivalent, or Science graduate with substantial and relevant pharmaceutical experience and the ability to demonstrate - Working in a medical, scientific and/or clinical research environment Discussing scientific or clinical data to help understand medical and scientific insights from physicians to improve patient outcomes Effectively listening, communicating and presenting scientific and/or clinical data to research or healthcare professionals Developing peer-to-peer relationships with top-ranking doctors, scientists or other healthcare professionals Training others Quickly and comprehensively learning about new subject areas and environments Superior, in-depth, medical scientific knowledge and understanding in oncology desirable Knowledge of clinical trial design and process Knowledge of the National Healthcare System and the pharmaceutical industry Excellent English language skills, spoken and written Excellent communication skills Knowledge of HEOR data and the ability to communicate value data To protect the safety of our employees, third parties, customers, patients and communities, BMS Australia requires all employees to be fully vaccinated using a locally approved vaccination against COVID-19, unless an exemption is applicable under the State or Federal legislation relevant to you (e.g. your state’s anti-discrimination act).
