Site Name: London The Stanley Building Posted Date: Dec 6 2022 Senior Software Engineer - Sequence Learning At GSK we see a world in which advanced applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) will allow us to develop novel therapies to existing diseases and to quickly respond to emerging or changing diseases with personalized drugs, driving better outcomes at reduced cost with fewer side effects. It is an ambitious vision that will require the development of products and solutions at the cutting edge of AI/ML. If that excites you, we'd love to chat. The AI/ML Sequence Learning Team applies machine learning and AI methods to biological sequence (DNA, RNA, protein) data from large-scale human genetic, functional genomic and single cell experiments. Models operating directly on sequence data that can infer how variants alter protein/RNA abundance, structure and function have the potential to be transformative in drug discovery, empowering us to find new life saving medicines. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a track record of developing production grade AI-powered software solutions and an in-depth knowledge of modern software engineering best practices. This important role will be central in allowing us to scale our modelling efforts and build out an ecosystem of services that will support advanced sequence modelling efforts within the AI/ML team and across GSK. The candidate should be comfortable being fully accountable for the software engineering component of complex technical products. A background in genetics is not a requirement, but the ability to engage effectively with AI/ML and genetics subject matter experts will be an important part of the role. The AI/ML team is built on the principles of ownership, accountability, continuous development, and collaboration. We hire for the long term, and we're motivated to make this a great place to work. Our leaders will be committed to your career and development from day one. We’re combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated. In 2021 we delivered four major product approvals: Cabenuva for HIV, Jemperli for endometrial cancer, Xevudy for COVID-19 and Apretude, our new long-acting medicine for HIV prevention. Find out more: Our approach to R&D In this role you will Lead the hands-on development of AI-powered services, taking responsibility for requirements engineering, software architecture design, implementation, testing, integration, maintenance and documentation Collaborate with AI/ML experts to develop modular, reusable, and scalable deep learning library components for training and inference pipelines Liaise with end users to ensure fit-for-purpose programming interfaces Work closely with AI/ML Platform Engineers to construct software solutions that are compatible with existing AI/ML infrastructure Mentor/coach AI/ML Engineers in software engineering best practices Deliver robust, tested and performant code in an agile development environment Exhibit excellent project management and communication skills, taking ownership and working transparently Closing Date for Applications: 20/12/22 (COB) Please take a copy of the Job Description, as this will not be available post closure of the advert.
