<p><strong>Reports to: </strong>Operations Director</p>
<p><strong>Location:</strong><strong> </strong>West London. MESME currently operates an agile working policy requiring 1-2 days a week in London, including a Tuesday team day in the office (The Yellow Building, 1 Nicholas Road, London, W11 4AN). However, we will consider home-based or remote working for this role.</p>
<p><strong>Contract:</strong><strong> </strong>Permanent</p>
<p><strong>Pattern: </strong>Full or part-time considered (minimum 0.6 FTE)</p>
<p><strong>Closing date:</strong> 19/09/2022 at 12pm</p>
<p><strong>Interviews:</strong> 30/09/2022 (in the afternoon)</p>
<p><strong>Salary:</strong><strong> </strong>£40,000 to £45,000 per annum FTE, higher salary considered for exceptional candidates.</p>

<p><strong>About the role:</strong></p>
<p>MESME is embarking on a phase of substantial growth, and the Communications Manager will be a key member of our central team. The core purpose of this role is to develop and then implement MESME’s communications strategy, ensuring that:</p>
<ul>
<li>the strategy is fully aligned with our strategy for growth</li>
<li>our communications reach, engage and support our target audiences</li>
</ul>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Key Responsibilities and Duties:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Working closely with the CEO, Board and MESME central team</li>
<li>Developing a substantial, multi-channel and coherent communications strategy</li>
<li>Implementing this strategy, ensuring that it covers a broad range of communications, from proactively engaging with journalists and teachers leading MESME programmes to managing social media channels to and writing external facing content</li>
<li>Foreseeing MESME’s communications needs, and ensuring MESME is prepared and resourced to meet these</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Key Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience of managing various communication channels such as social media and PR to maximise engagement with stakeholders</li>
<li>Ability to build and sustain strong relationships</li>
<li>Knowledge of the UK education landscape, specifically STEM fields and mathematics</li>
<li>Passionate about social mobility and providing opportunities for young people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds</li>
<li>Excitement at the breadth, fluidity, and opportunity of this role</li>
<li>A ‘self-starter’ who works independently and imaginatively but to a clear brief and within a ‘tight’ framework</li>

<p>Mathematics Education for Social Mobility and Excellence (MESME) has been set up to support students from all backgrounds to achieve mathematical excellence, so that they go on to have a greater and richer range of future personal, employment and economic choices.</p>
<p>MESME’s target is that by 2035 there will be double the number of PhD students in the mathematical sciences at a UK university. We are committed that this increase must include a representative proportion, at the minimum, of students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds who went to school in the UK.</p>
<p>Along the way MESME will enrich the mathematical experiences of everyone who participates in our programmes, enabling them to enjoy mathematics and to identify as a mathematician. We expect to see over time an increasing proportion of participating students who: achieve certificates in UKMT challenges; attain top grades at GCSE and in A Level Further Mathematics; progress to leading universities to study degrees in the mathematical sciences.</p>
