Job Summary The Software Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of software applications and/or system interfaces through the application of software quality principles. The Software specialist works with management, consultants, developers, and users to compile and prioritize software/system enhancements and defect resolution. The Software Specialist supports the computing needs of the Plant Operations organization. The position will execute plant engineering activities ensuring optimum outputs are achieved in the most economic and safe manner while supporting the integrity and infrastructure of the department. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Primary duties consist of the maintenance of software applications and databases that automate work processes. Performs work under direct supervision. Typically, this person will be assigned to support production software. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required to resolve problems that arise. Works with application administrators to resolve production software problems, especially as they relate to database issues. Also ensures proper functioning of data feeds between different systems. Eventually the position may incorporate Business Intelligence / Reporting tasks. Additional responsibilities include: Designing and implementing new or existing complex software application programs and reports according to project software standards and conventions and reviewing the work of others. Ensuring automated data feeds and system interfaces are working as intended. Proposing technical solutions to automate manual processes. Performing Oracle maintenance activities including database design, data migration, SQL script writing, and performance improvements. Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to system interfaces. Performing and overseeing commercial and developed software upgrades in accordance with software quality procedures. Assisting with the generation of metrics and/or reports. Regularly interfacing with internal application power users to identify emergent issues. Supporting Continuous Improvement efforts intended to improve the quality of existing software. Supporting the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment. Performs minimal off-hours work to ensure successful business application continuity after software patching occurs. This is not a remote work/telework opportunity. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES NA PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity. Minimum Requirements Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field. 5 years of experience programming or supporting web-based software applications and designing/managing Oracle databases. OR Associates degree in Business or related field. 7 years of experience programming or supporting web-based software applications and designing/managing Oracle databases. OR High School Diploma and 10 years of experience programming or supporting web-based software applications and designing/managing Oracle databases. Other Experience: Technical writing skills required. Experience applying software quality engineering principles for the management, design, and testing of software. SQL and Oracle experience is required. Must be detail oriented, adept at problem solving, and a good communicator. Programming experience with asp; Visual Basic, C++, and/or C
is highly desired. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship
