This is a co-op/internship position open to only students currently enrolled in the University of Waterloo’s Master of Taxation Program and can be a hybrid or virtual position. What you will do You’ll have the opportunity to work across geographies and industries to take on challenging and groundbreaking projects. From analyzing and assessing business processes to improving client performance, you’ll be building strong relationships with our people and developing professional skills that will help set you up for success. International Tax In KPMG’s International Tax practice, your skills, tact and knowledge can make a difference to your client's business strategy and ultimately, their bottom line. You’ll work with clients to identify tax-planning opportunities and meet their tax compliance requirements. Learn more at https://home.kpmg/ca/en/home/services/tax/international-tax.html Co-op/ Intern: Winter 2023 and Fall 2023 As an International Corporate Tax Specialist, you will work closely with our senior leaders to analyze tax issues and meet our clients’ expectations. As a member of the tax engagement team, you excel at meeting the international tax planning needs of clients. This position provides a fascinating opportunity to work on a wide range of tax assignments. Role and Responsibilities: Prepare Canadian income tax returns in respect of corporations that have international tax issues to be reported. Work closely with other team members on a range of international tax advisory projects involving Canadian multinational corporations operating abroad and foreign companies investing into Canada. Prepare T1134 – Information Return Relating to Controlled and Not-Controlled Foreign Affiliates, Foreign Accrual Property Income (FAPI) computations, and surplus calculations. Work closely with other team members in different geographies on a range of international tax advisory projects involving Canadian multinational corporations operating abroad and foreign companies investing into Canada. Prepare detailed documents and communications for clients, including technical memos and client-specific advice. Provide assistance to senior staff through support in research, development, implementation, project strategy and other international tax initiatives for specific clients. What you bring to the role You’re a highly motivated student who strives for excellence, innovation, and collaboration. You’re passionate about being involved in your local community and university and have a proven ability to achieve personal and professional success while juggling competing priorities and deadlines. You have a strong academic record, currently enrolled in the University of Waterloo’s Master of Taxation Program and are committed to achieving your CPA designation post-graduation. Keys to your success: An interest in pursuing a career in tax. Strong relationship-building skills that will enable you to easily interact with clients, colleagues, and the wider community. A commitment to continual learning – developing new skills, taking on new responsibilities and broadening your knowledge through research. The ability to provide crucial consultation and analysis for the variety of clients you will serve. Dedication and motivation to achieve high standards of client service and professionalism in the performance of duties Ability to use a range of techniques to analyze an issue You have knowledge of relevant accounting frameworks. You are highly motivated and a strong team player. You are an excellent multi-tasker to work effectively towards tight deadlines and manage multiple projects. You possess strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure managers are kept updated on file progression.
