Job Summary This is a European Union or US National LOCAL HIRE Position in Germany. As such the employee will be subject to paying German taxes and be part of the German work force with all the benefits of Host Nation employment and social system. This position is not approved for relocation allowances. Purpose: Under general direction, performs duties as a Blocker and Bracer on the contract. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. Fabricates shoring for loading, stowing, handling, blocking, or bracing of cargo shipments, or erect temporary shoring to meet missions to expedite shipping. Use plans, blueprints, drawings to select, measure, cut, form, and fabricate wooden containers and platforms. Maintains a monthly accountability record of all Blocking, Bracing, Packing, Crating, and Tie-Down (BBPCT) and store them correctly. Prepares all BB&T and pre-stage them before a train arrives. Inspects and stores any incoming BBPCT. Correctly place and secure all BBPCT to equipment and rail cars. Drives equipment onto train carriages under the guidance of Deutsche Bahn Load Masters. Deploys with the Equipment Configuration Hand-off Area (ECHA) to other work sites. Reports and receives direction via radio or cellular phone. Assists in loading and unloading of material transported. Functions as a crossing guard for inbound/outbound trains after training. Shift work, weekends, mandatory overtime (with proper notice given) and cross-training can be required to meet daily/weekly workload requirements. Maintains a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate. Performs other duties are assigned. Minimum Requirements Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Experience: 2 years’ experience in the same or similar position. Specialized knowledge and skills: Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Must be able to assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins or Must be able to install structures and fixtures such as, frames, floorings, trim, shims and or hardware, using carpenter's hand and power Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service Must be able to work from different height levels. Must be able to utilize electric power tools to cut and drill wooden blocks and laterals. Must be able to use plans, blueprints, drawings to select, measure, cut, form, and fabricate wooden containers and platforms. Must be able to shape or cut materials to specify measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saw to properly fit shoring for shipping of cargo. Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements. Must have a valid driver’s Work Environment, Physical Demands & Mental Demands: Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures. Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
