<b> Overview / Responsibilities </b><br><br>Wood has a full time employment opportunity for a Junior Ecologist , based in Saskatchewan (Regina or Saskatoon). The Junior Ecologist must be experienced with western Canadian plant or animal communities and species. The successful candidate should expect to spend time in the field, including work in remote locations. <br><br><b>Responsibilities:</b> <br><br>The successful candidate will work within the Environment and Regulatory Team under the supervision of the Discipline Lead. Primary responsibilities will be to provide support on a wide variety of projects as delegated by the Discipline Lead. This will involve the following: <br><br><ul><li> Assisting with environmental permitting and approval applications </li><li> Taking a structured, well-organized approach to field data and observations with a focus on accuracy </li><li> Conducting biological surveys, including but not limited to surveys for nesting birds, grassland birds, boreal birds, sharp-tailed grouse leks, burrowing owl, short-eared owl, common nighthawk, amphibians (auditory and visual), snake hibernacula, bats, rare vascular plants, weeds, etc. </li><li> Completing environmental desktop screenings and various reports (e.g., As-built, Technical Proposal, Linear Project Proposal) </li><li> Assisting with environmental monitoring and communication with Contractors during project construction </li><li> Supporting interactions with Clients and regulatory agencies. </li></ul> <br><br><b> Skills / Qualifications </b><br><br>The position requires that the successful candidate has a solid technical and/or academic background. <br><br><ul><li> Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Science/Management or Diploma in Integrated Resource Management, Environmental Science/Resources or similar program. </li><li> 1 or more years of professional environmental experience. </li><li> Flexibility to work a variety of schedules (days / nights) in a range of weather conditions is required for this role </li><li> Ability to go to the field (or a site) for up to a week at a time is required for this role </li><li> Experience with wildlife and/or vegetation species identification, biological surveys and associated survey protocols. </li><li> Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams. </li><li> Experience using GPS handheld units to navigate and to capture data. </li><li> Experience with proposal writing and budget maintenance. </li><li> Excellent writing and communication skills. </li><li> Experience with impact assessment and associated reporting, and mitigation and compensation planning are an asset. </li><li> Class 5 Driver's License valid for use in Saskatchewan </li><li> Experience preparing regulatory applications under the Saskatchewan Environmental Management and Protection Act, 2010 would be an asset </li><li> Experience with ArcGIS is an asset. </li></ul> <br><br><b> Company Overview </b><br><br>Wood is a global leader in engineering and consultancy across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world's most critical challenges.
