<p><b>Overview / Responsibilities </b><br />
<br />
Wood has a permanent employment opportunity for a senior Vegetation / Wetland Specialist, based in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the vegetation and wetland group in Calgary, AB and will collaborate with our ecology teams in other Canadian offices as required.<br />
<br />
The successful candidate will work within the vegetation and wetland group under the supervision of the Natural Sciences group lead. You will work as part of our Environmental and Regulatory office, supporting a broad range of resource development projects in western and northern Canada.<br />
<br />
The main responsibilities for the position are as follows:</p>

<ul>
<li>Manage, develop, execute vegetation and wetland investigations and assessments in accordance with industry standards and applicable regulatory requirements.</li>
<li>Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work and produce high-quality technical deliverables on schedule and within budget.</li>
<li>Coordinate and oversee the vegetation and wetland field programs and field staff.</li>
<li>Provide technical direction and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff.</li>
<li>Understand and apply current and emerging environmental regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including those governing development in proximity to wetlands, rare plants and vegetation communities.</li>
<li>Develop clear, technically sound work proposals that meet or exceed Clients&
39; expectations. Lead document preparation for Federal and Provincial environmental approvals for projects in western Canada, focused on the energy and transportation sectors but encompassing a broad range of sectors and development projects.</li>
<li>Write and conduct senior review of technical reports, including impact assessments, protection and management plans, and regulatory applications.</li>
<li>Liaise and work with other technical specialists as part of multi-disciplinary project teams, including hydrologists, GIS specialists, infrastructure engineers, and other environmental disciplines.</li>
<li>Interact with contractors, sub-consultants and regulatory agencies as required.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain client and regulatory contacts, lead, and support business development.</li>
<li>Lead field work and provide support in local and remote locations related to baseline, environmental effects monitoring and other post development/permit compliance monitoring.</li>
<li>Promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines in the execution of all work.</li>
<li>Development of project and site-specific Health and Safety Plans.</li>
</ul>

<li>Air photo or satellite photo interpretation.</li>
<li>Vegetation (including ecosite phase) and wetland mapping.</li>
<li>Conducting wetland assessments under the Alberta Wetland Policy, including field assessments, functional assessments, classification and field and map-based delineations.</li>
<li>Completing field data analysis and interpretation, report writing and client/project coordination.</li>
</ul>

The successful candidate should expect to spend some time in the field, including working in remote locations. To meet the physical demands required of this position, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in a variety of weather conditions.<br />
<br />
The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate a solid technical and/or academic background, in combination with significant client, regulatory, and management experience in the consulting industry. Experience within western Canada is preferred. Keu requirements include:</p>

<ul>
<li>Diploma or B.Sc. in science, agriculture, or ecology.</li>
<li>Ten or more years of relevant office and field experience or environmental consulting.</li>
<li>Strong technical writing and management skills.</li>
<li>Experience with the Alberta Wetland Policy, ABWRET-A and the Alberta Wetland Classification System. Formal completion of the ABWRET-A Wetland training.</li>
<li>Proven taxonomic vegetation identification skills including wetland indicators, rare plants, and weeds/exotic/horticultural species.</li>
<li>Proficient in air photo/satellite imagery interpretation, classification, and delineation of wetlands in Alberta.</li>
<li>Experience in preparing federal and provincial regulatory applications (including applications under the Alberta Water Act and Alberta Wetland Policy) is an asset.</li>
<li>Excellent verbal communication.</li>
<li>Strong commitment to health and safety.</li>
<li>Well organized, attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and up to date field information.</li>
<li>Experience coordinating project planning, logistics and preparation for field work.</li>
<li>Ability to use navigation tools to navigate to remote locations.</li>
<li>Ability to work within a team environment.</li>
<li>Proficient in suite of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</li>
<li>Certified in First Aid -Level C and CPR, Ground Disturbance Level II, Argo Operator certification and H2S alive certification is an asset.</li>
<li>Experience using ArcGIS software is an asset.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of the Canadian System of Soil Classification and AGRASID in an asset.</li>
